A small shift behind the scenes of my VA business

There’s a stage in business that I don’t think is talked about all that much.
The point where things are growing - which is exactly what you want - but at the same time, everything starts to feel a little full. A little stretched. Like there are more moving parts than you can comfortably hold on your own.
That’s where I’ve found myself recently.

A small shift behind the scenes
Back in December, I made the decision to bring an associate into my Virtual Assistant business.
At the time, it felt like the right next step. But it’s only over the past month or so that I’ve actually felt ready to start handing over some of my work.
And if I’m honest, that part has taken longer than I expected.
The reality of letting go
There’s a real trust element that comes with letting someone into your business.
When you’ve built something yourself, you get used to holding everything - the details, the processes, the way things are done.
Even handing over a small task can feel like a much bigger step than it looks from the outside.
Seeing things from a different perspective
It’s made me think a lot about my clients.
When I talk about working with a Virtual Assistant, I often say that trust is something that builds over time. That handing things over can feel like a big step, even when you know you need support.
Now I’m having to sit with that myself.
I’ve found myself asking, “What would I say to a client in this situation?”
And the answer is always the same - "start small, build it up, and don’t rush to hand everything over at once."
Why support matters when your business is growing
One thing I’m starting to realise more clearly is that growing a business doesn’t come from doing more and more on your own.
It comes from creating space.
Space to think.
Space to plan.
Space to focus on where you actually want your business to go.
And support is a big part of that - even if it takes time to get comfortable with it.
Still early days
It still feels like early days for me.
But already, I can feel a small shift. Not just in my workload, but mentally too. There’s a bit more space than there was before.
And that feels like a step in the right direction.
Final thoughts
If you’re at a similar stage - growing your business, feeling stretched, and unsure how to take the next step -I completely understand how that feels.
Letting go isn’t always easy.
It takes time.
And growth doesn’t always feel neat while you’re in it.
But sometimes, the smallest shifts behind the scenes can make the biggest difference over time.
